Coming up on 16-18 October is the Canberra Latin Dance Festival (CLDF) and we at Salsabor are excited! It’s the festival’s fourth year and it is filled with workshops, shows and dance parties that will have you having the time of your life.
In case you’re not across everything that’s happening this year we wanted to share nine reasons why you will have the time of your life.
1. A professional re-enactment of Johnny and Baby’s last dance.
Saturday night’s Night of Dirty Dancing will end with a professional re-enactment of the classic final dance scene of Johnny and Baby in the movie Dirty Dancing. Who doesn’t love watching that scene over and over? You’ll definitely love it at the festival.
2. Four world champions will be teaching and performing over the festival.
Four, yes, four world champion Salsa and Bachata dancers will be joining us at this year’s festival. Vera Rowe and Uriel Garcia from the USA, and Simone Sanfilippo and Serena Maso from Italy. Not only will you experience the expertise and precision of national, international and local teachers, you’ll also get to learn from world champions. And you’ll be able to ask them how they did that tricky and impressive move that you want to get right. Where else would you be able to do this?
Learn from Vera Rowe and Uriel Garcia from the USA
3. 35 different workshops to choose from.
Spread out over the weekend are 35 different workshops to choose from including a special dancehall workshop, the first time ever at the festival. There are also workshops on Salsa, Bachata, Zouk, Samba, Reggaeton, Pachanga, Tango for Latin dance, Mambo, and Cha Cha. Learn from the best and then practice your moves at the dance parties later that night with the new people you’ve met at the workshops. Even if you are an experienced dancer still take this once in a lifetime opportunity to learn and interact directly with world-class dancers and instructors.
4. The best DJ’s and band in Australia to dance to.
As well as sensational DJs to have you dancing until the early hours of the morning, you’ll also be able to dance to the live beat of Australia’s best Latin American band, Salsa Rica, on Saturday night. Featuring the vocals of Columbian superstar, Wilson Orozco and New York legend Luis Lugo with an all-star line-up of Sydney’s finest Latin musicians, Salsa Rica is the highest quality Latin Band this side of New York.
5. Professional shows to inspire you each night.
Before the dance parties come the professional shows that feature local and national performance teams that have worked long and hard to bring you routines that will dazzle, excite and leave you smiling. You’ll also get to witness the world champions do their thing. New this year will be performances during the lunch break on Sunday. Inspiration all the way through the weekend.
6. Not one but two party rooms to choose from.
After the professional shows begin the dance parties! We have a Salsa, Bachata and Cha Cha room and a Zouk, Graferria and Kizomba room that you can move between every night of the festival. Show off your new moves that you’ve learnt during the workshops and dance with lots of new people.
7. A real Brazilian Carnaval Parade to experience.
Wrap up a weekend of dancing with a fully costumed Brazilian Carnaval Parade that includes Batucada, a sub-style of samba, and refers to an African influenced Brazilian percussive style, usually performed by an ensemble, known as a Bateria. Really shake your tail feather while wearing feathers and experience a bit of Rio right here in Canberra.
8. A great night out dancing with friends… and making new ones.
Who doesn’t love a night out dancing with friends, especially when it’s at a festival filled with all the types of dancing that you love and among great teachers and community that you know. And then there’s all the new ones from other schools, states and countries that you’ll make too. Become and even better dancer by dancing with new people.
9. Canberra’s one and only Latin festival to enjoy.
The one and only Latin festival created and run in Canberra. Support your local dance community and enjoy the only world-class festival of its kind in the nation’s capital. No other reason needed really.
To celebrate the coming festival, we have a very special time-sensitive offer for you. If you buy your ticket (any ticket) within the next 24 hours (before 6pm, Thursday 24 September) you’ll receive a free Friday night show pass to give to a friend or family member!
It doesn’t get much better than that! If you haven’t bought your ticket yet, now is the time to do it.
