With our own Salsabor-styled Barre Attack selling out for its first class last night, we wanted to share a little more about why we’re so excited to have it as part of Salsabor and why you will love it!

Combining barre with dance really is a match made in heaven. Barre’s roots come from ballet and if you’ve ever seen ballerinas dance you will appreciate their precision, poise, agility and strength to leap, spin and balance. It also uses a combination of postures inspired by Pilates and fitness.

If you want to improve your posture (which is essential for a healthy spine and long-term health) and to strengthen and tone your body to make it even more subtle and flexible for dance, then you will want to do Barre Attack.

The barre is used as a prop to balance while doing movements that focus on isometric strength training (holding your body still while you contract a specific set of muscles) combined with high repetitions of small range-of-motion movements.

Don’t be surprised if your class incorporates light handheld weights to bring the burn during all those reps, as well as mats and elastics for targeted core work! You can find out more about exactly what is involved in our detailed FAQs.

Barre Attack is for all shapes and sizes, and both men and women are encouraged to give it a go. And it was so great to see so many men there last night!

You’re still welcome to join us for the barre holiday classes. And you can also join our Semester 1 class of Barre Attack starting on 2 February.
